Yoga Therapy

abhyasayoga_jodie
  • Yoga Therapy, the remedial tradition of yoga,  aims to empower you to improve your condition through self-action.  It is a multidimensional approach which identifies and recognises the interrelationship between physical and emotional states, attitudes, diet, behaviour, lifestyle, relationships and the environment in which we live—and the state of our health.  It is a personalised, iterative and staged approach, in which Yoga techniques are adopted and adapted to support agreed positive health outcome(s).

  • Yoga Therapy is premised on a one-on-one relationship between an appropriately qualified Yoga Therapist and Client in a Clinical Setting.

    The process involves:

    • Intake and Assessment to understand the nature and impacts of the problem;

    • Identify underlying causes and effects (which are often multiple), may be known and unknown to the client, through careful observation, dialogue and assessment;

    • Collaborative goal setting for the short and long-term;

    • Written personalised practice and lifestyle recommendations based on the rich repertoire of Yogic tools to best suit the needs, personality, lifestyle, resolve and condition of the Client;

    • Client trialling the recommendations; and

    • Reconvene for feedback, assessment and refinement.

    In an ideal situation, the practice will be adapted at chosen checkpoints to meet the changing health, needs and goals of the client.

  • $150 for 75-90mins including written practice and lifestyle recommendations

    $110 follow up one week after - 60 min with any changes documented

    $285 follow up 3 session bundle (recommended)

    Our fee schedule has been calculated to meet our extensive training and current costs. However, if you are experiencing financial hardship, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss your circumstances and a manageable exchange.

    Makayla-Hip & Low Back Pain

    When I first reached out to Alicia, I had excruciating hip pain and lower back pain and had seen multiple different people - osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists etc to try and fix this pain, however, nothing worked. I broke down to my partner and had no idea how I was going to continue living my life in this much pain. Alicia listened to everything and went above and beyond to work out what the source of the pain was. With her help I have been able to fix my hip and back problems, I no longer experience this pain daily. It is rare if it aches.

    Diana—Completely Empowered

    Jodie is an incredible teacher and full of knowledge, but at the same time manages to leave you feeling fully in control of your yoga experience and I feel completely empowered after my sessions with her.

    I leave each session a different person from the woman I walked in as; calm, confident, and much more able to handle the physical and emotional demands of the day.

    Each session is like a little jewel where I always learn something different to take with me into my daily life.  Yoga with Jodie really benefits all parts of ‘me’: physically, mentally and emotionally, and spiritually.

    She is authentic, knowledgeable, intuitive and approachable.  No one else compares.

    Scott—Anxiety & Chronic Back Pain

    Prior to beginning this practice, I would wake each night already in a state of high anxiety. The following morning I would exit bed with a pain in my right lower back…. Alicia suggested techniques that enabled me to reduce this condition after waking with the added bonus of eliminating the initial restlessness on waking altogether. I believe this, in turn, resulted in a lessening of lower back pain. Overall my anxiety has reduced and lower back pain, although not eliminated, has diminished somewhat.

    Mike—Back Pain

    I began Yoga Therapy with Jodie after living with chronic back pain resulting from an injury.  One day I could not get out of bed and realised I needed to seek other options.  Jodie was very gentle and very attuned to me.  It was about me and what I needed, which was key, considering the pain and restricted movement I was experiencing.  She brought mindfulness to every session in deepening and crafting practices to support me.  I have done yoga for 15 years and yet I learnt things about yoga and my body and ways to do it safely and specifically, to strengthen what I needed.  It really accelerated my healing and made my recovery way more effective than I thought it could be.  It was an incredibly positive experience for me.

    Liz—Chronic Pain & PTSD

    I have noticed an overall reduction in feelings of physical pain in my body. In particular, my left shoulder is less tight and my hips feel more open. I am also more in tune with the areas in my body where I am holding tension and feel more able to release these areas. I feel so lucky to have learnt these tools from Alicia. With this knowledge comes a sense of empowerment which is sometimes difficult to feel when managing PTSD symptoms... although I will continue to be triggered and have flashbacks, I have the skills to manage them.”

    Suze—Tailors to my needs

    Jodie is different from other yoga teachers I’ve experienced because she is so very knowledgeable, thoughtful and trustworthy.  She tailors your yoga practice to your needs and has an amazing ability to cater to everyone in a subtle and well-informed way.

    Lynne—Foot Pain

    What I found to be the most positive aspect of my yoga therapy practice was that, although it was specifically targeting my feet, it took on a holistic approach including exercises, breathing exercises and mudras. Alicia developed a set of specific exercises after a thorough and thoughtful assessment of all the facets of my issues and the impact on my well-being. Prior to contacting Alicia about yoga therapy as an option, I had seen a specialist regarding surgery for my foot issues. Fortunately for me, after an initial consultation and assessment, Alicia formulated a specific set of strengthening exercises that have benefited my feet greatly. I am confident that this improvement will continue. I am no longer considering surgery as improvement is so positive. The added benefit of Alicia programs is that it can be incorporated into your yoga practice/ asansa, including breath work and specific mudras.

  • Nicole—Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, Jodie works with you to provide exercises to compliment and extend your ability.  Jodie suggests slight adjustments to your poses to great effect and encourages me to move in a way that keeps my joints functional.  She is non-judgemental and her instructions are clear and precise.  My mobility, strength and quality of life are so much better.  She is a truly gifted therapist and teacher and I would recommend her to anyone.

  • Yoga became my sanctuary amidst the relentless pace of a global technology career. From my very first class, I was captivated by a profound sense of renewal and clarity. This sparked a deep curiosity, leading me to explore the reasons for the subtle, yet significant shifts it was fostering in my body, mindset and habits.

  • Today, my journey has come a full circle. Where I once guided organisations through business transformation using technology, I now empower individuals to create lasting personal change.   With over 3,000 hours of experience, I specialise in personalised yoga practices - whether in a remedial setting, or Yoga professionals ready to explore the deeper practices of Yoga.

  • Motivated by the accessibility and endless adaptability of Yoga to meet the needs of the individual, my work extends across various communities:

    • Self-care programs for Foster Carers;

    • School-based mindfulness initiatives;
